Lealta Performing Arts Association of San Diego is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) color guard organization currently comprised of 18 members ranging from 15 to 21 years of age. This is a very exciting time for Lealta because we are kicking off a 2nd unit designed for elementary and middle school students starting mid-January 2008. We are anticipating another 40+ members!
What is color guard? It is one of the most unique activities in the world today and the fastest growing of the pageantry arts. It’s the flash of colorful flags; light reflecting off silver sabers and necks craned high counting revolutions of wooden rifles. It’s leaps, turns and choreographed dance and drill to pre-recorded music. Color guard constantly redefines itself as the “Sport of the Arts” and has become a substitute for the loss of many performing arts programs in schools today.
With your help, we will be in a better position to provide scholarships to our students who are financially struggling to make ends meet. For example, $10 covers the cost for a flag pole, $36 covers the cost of a member’s rifle; $125 for a member’s costume; $190 for a saber; and $300 for a member’s airfare to Dayton, Ohio. Should you require a copy of our nonprofit paperwork or budget for 2008, we will be happy to forward upon request.
Donations of any kind that you or your business can offer are greatly appreciated. Service or in-kind donations also help (i.e., grocery items, trophies, equipment rentals, gift cards of any kind ). No contribution is too small.
